Quotable Quotes

One of the best gifts I got before leaving on my LDS mission was a small book of quotes from my dear cousin Janelle. She had written a few of her favorites in it, and left plenty of pages for me to write new ones. I used the book throughout my mission and still refer to the uplifting, encouraging, and inspiring words. As Ryan's cousin is ready to depart, I thought I'd pass the tradition along, so I found a really cool journal that I want to write in and send to her. I'd love to put in as many great quotes as I can, so I'm asking for YOUR help. If you have a great quote (missionary or otherwise), please share it in the comments...

Coleman's quips of the day: "I think we should call me 'Coleman the Smart'!" (3/12/08)

"Look Mom, my tongue looks like a bum!" (as he rolled his tongue--and he was right, it did in fact look like a bum... 3/11/08)

"Your best is good enough."

Simple, I know. Pretty sure I had it always posted by my study desk during my mission. Even today it often helps to remember it.

Credit for the quote goes to one of my best friend's dad. His life was cut short by lung cancer. He was an amazing and humble man and part of why I love this quote is that it helps me remember him.

This is actually IN Preach My Gospel, so every missionary will have access to it anyway, but it meant a lot to me:

"When you have done your very best, you may still experience disappointment, but you will not be disappointed in yourself. You can feel certain that the Lord is pleased when you feel the Spirit working through you." (p. 11)

"May we have the ears to hear, the hearts to feel, and the courage to follow." ~unknown~

"What you do on Sunday reflects how you feel about the Atonement." ~unknown~

"It is better to prepare & prevent, than it is to repair and repent." Neal A. Maxwell

"No member of this Church can stand approved in the presence of God who has not seriously and carefully read The Book of Mormon." Joseph Fielding Smith

Here are a few that I really like.

A weakness is only a strength in cocoon. (By some BYU professor, don't remember who)

You could also put in the quote on my blog header, which might really ring true on a bad day. He would probably appreciate something funny. Or try this one, too: "Some people are alive simply because it's against the law to kill them." :)

Is it becoming clear yet that I didn't go on a mission? :)

Okay- I just stumbled upon your blog and I love how you ask questions at the end of your blog post. What a fun idea!

Bruce thought this was a cool thought he heard today:
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and conveniences but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy. Martin Luther King, Jr.
