Second Miler Award

Ryan's been in Scouts in one form or another for the last 10 years. He was just awarded by our District with the Second Miler Award.

They served a delicious baked potato banquet and presented Ry with this nifty certificate.

He's standing up there with our former bishop (who received the same award) and a few of the council leaders.

Ryan tries so hard to help all of the Scouts and leaders in our ward do their best. The award was well deserved!

There's a Bear in the House

Coleman's ninth birthday meant rank advancement in Cub Scouts. He went from a very fun Wolf Den (where he worked hard and completed all of the requirements and earned several arrow points) to a great Bear Den where I know he will have just as much fun. His new den buddies gave him some bear paw stamps all over to show their warm welcome and he got to sport the awesome bear hat for almost all of Pack Meeting.

Day Camp

Coleman got to attend day camp with his Cub Scout Wolf den. It was a two-day camp that was held at a local park. I got to be a parent helper for a half-day and it was fun to watch Coleman interact with the other boys. They did all sorts of fun activities like parachute games, obstacle courses, build and launch bottle rockets, build catapults, shoot BB Guns, archery, Ultimate Frisbee, and even visit the trading post where nice moms (not me) let their boys purchase their very first pocket knife. Coleman came home with treasures like a rabbits foot, a beaded necklace, and a few keychains. He loves being a part of Scouts!

Pinewood Derby

Coleman was so excited to participate in his first Pinewood Derby this year. He really wanted to design a cool car, and despite our warnings that this design probably wouldn't go very fast, he still wanted to go for it. He and Ryan worked hard to shape his block of balsa wood into a boat. That's right, a boat. They added some weights and sanded and painted and drilled and designed sails using scout emblems. It was lovely! Just as we suspected, it didn't go very fast, and there were a few moments that I wanted to cry for him that his car didn't win the race, but he didn't seem to be bothered at all. He loved showing it off and racing it over and over again. Maybe next year he will be more concerned with the speed than the design, but for this time around he was as  happy as he could be to race his boat.

On My Honor

Welcome to the Wolf Den!
